Pearl

A portrait inspired by a rainy winter evening, I wanted to capture a rough, but flamboyant, melancholic and soft-natured character, perhaps a theatre performer having a lonely moment, suddenly feeling the weight of their own life experiences. Later the picture took control and I made him a chaos acolyte or a worlock warped by his immersion into demonic world. Looking back, I realise the eye represents a pearl emerging form a mollusc-like body, so the picture is still pretty much about pain and alienation.
